Treatment of livestock-associated MRSA
MRSA is a bacterium (staphylococci) that is resistant to the most commonly used antibiotics.
This specific type of MRSA is usually found in pigs and is called MRSA 398 or livestock-associated MRSA (LA-MRSA). Livestock-associated MRSA is different from other types of MRSA, because it can spread from animals to humans. Pigs are the most common source of transmission, but other animals such as cattle and horses can carry MRSA.
