Pain thresholds in children undergoing surgery

A new publication from Pedersen-LK et al underlines the influence of planned surgery on the children`s pain thresholds. Thresholds are significantly lower just before surgery.

This implies that factors as for example anticipatory anxiety, psychological habitus and expected pain might play a role in the perception of pain. Maybe we don´t handle these issues sufficiently in our daily routine. There is more to pain than medicine…..
