Ida Ehlers Albertsen

My primary research focus for many years has been venous thromboembolism (VTE), comprising both deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Venous thromboembolism is associated with significant morbidity and mortality in surgery patients, but conflicting data exist on the risk of venous thromboembolism in head and neck surgical patients. My current research therefore aims to determine the risk of VTE in postoperative head and neck surgical patients, and further objects to identify patient characteristics associated with suffering from the disease.

I collaborate with international researchers from France and Boston (USA) within the field, the Department of Cardiology, and the Thrombosis research group at Aalborg University Hospital. Besides doing research myself I also supervise medical students doing research. I am currently supervising a project on validation of the diagnosis code on obstructive sleep apnea.
