The CardioMetabolic and Biomedical Research Group
The CardioMetabolic and Biomedical (CMB) Research Group performs interdisciplinary research via collaboration between Department of Clinical Medicine at Aalborg University (AAU) and Aalborg University Hospital (Aalborg UH) with representatives from Department of Clinical Biochemistry and Department of Cardiology. The main focus of the CMB Research Group is to study basic and clinical aspects of cardiometabolic diseases and to develop new diagnostics tools. A highly specialized laboratory led by Professor Aase Handberg is working with measurement of fatty acids in human tissue, characterization of extracellular vesicles (EVs), immunometabolism, and neurological markers, which are all central for the group's research activities.
The major areas of research interest include:
- Fatty acids
- Biomarkers of obesity complications
- Extracellular vesicles
- Neurological markers
- Immunometabolism
The skills of the scientific staff are rooted in medicine, molecular biomedicine, epidemiology, and advanced laboratory techniques with collaborators from all over the world.
