UCLA Activity Scale valuable for measuring change in physical activity after surgery
The UCLA Activity Scale (UCLA-as) is a questionnaire assessing physical activity level in patients undergoing hip or knee arthroplasty (THA/TKA). After translation and cultural adaptation, we evaluated the measurement properties of the Danish UCLA-as. Measurement properties were evaluated in 130 THA and 134 TKA patients preoperatively and 1-year postoperatively. To suit Danish patients of today, several adaptations were required. UCLA-as appears valuable for measuring change in selfreported physical activity on a group level. 4 out of 5 THA patients and 2 out of 3 TKA patients were more physically active 1 year after joint replacement surgery.
