Patellofemoral Arthroplasty Results in Better Time-weighted Patient-reported Outcomes After 6 Years than TKA - A Randomized Controlled Trial

New publication in Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research

6 year follow-up results from a multicenter study comparing patellofemoral arthroplasty (PFA) and total knee arthroplasty for isolated patellofemoral osteoarthritis. In a previous study 2-year outcomes were favorable for PFA regarding ROM and early rehabilitation. 6-year results showed no consistent differences between the two groups (SF-36, OKS, KOOS). The findings do not explain the rapid deterioration of result implied by high revision rates observed in implant registries. Based on 6-year results, including ROM, PFA is still the preferable option for severe isolated patellofemoral osteoarthritis.
